In the Dynamic Quantum Materials Laboratory we aim to generate materials with properties that can be changed on-demand on a sub-picosecond time scale, potentially paving the way for applications including Terahertz computing and communication or ultrafast sensing. This is achieved by driving solids with intense laser pulses that directly address collective modes and operate at the fundamental time-scales that govern order formation in a material. By creating a system with tunable properties, this also opens up new avenues to understand how order forms in a complex quantum-mechanical system.
